A 50-year-old South Side man already charged with the May robbery of a South Loop bank branch is now charged with robbing the same bank branch two other times.
Jerome D. Jackson was arrested following a May 22 robbery in which he allegedly took $659 from a TCF Bank branch at 1224 S. Wabash Ave., police said.
At the time, authorities said he was suspected with robbing the same bank branch on Jan. 13 and May 12, and on Tuesday, he was charged with those robberies in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
During the robbery that led to his arrest, Jackson placed a crumpled demand note on a teller counter, according to the original federal criminal complaint. The note stated, "Give me the money." He then said, "Give me the money so you won't get hurt." The teller took some cash from her drawer and also placed a GPS tracking device in the stack.
Jackson left the demand note on the counter and left the bank. An alarm was then activated and a bank representative gave a physical description of the robber to Chicago Police. Officers then used the GPS tracker to a spot near 1700 S. Indiana, where they found a man matching the description of the robber standing next to a bus.
As the officers approached Jackson, he said something to the effect of, "You got me, the money is in my sock and my pants pocket." The officers located the GPS device in his right sock -- with some cash -- and additional cash in his pants pocket.
Police took Jackson back to the bank, where two tellers positively identified him. Police recovered about $659 in cash, the complaint states.
Tuesday's complaint alleges Jackson took about $4,700 in the Jan. 13 robbery at the same branch, and $1,626 in a May 12 robbery.
Jackson, whose last known address was in the 6000 block of South Drexel, is charged with three counts of bank robbery, according to the FBI.
