Chicago did not set a heat record Monday, but will have two more chances this week before an intence heat wave gives way to slightly cooler air.
The temperature climbed to a high of 94 degrees just before 4 p.m. at O'Hare International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. The record high for June 18 was 98 degrees, set in 1947.
Additionally, a wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for Lake, Kane and McHenry counties, the weather service said. Southwest winds are expected to gust near 45 mph.
The weather service is predicting a high of 95 degrees Tuesday and 94 on Wednesday, when thunderstorms are likely. Temperatures are only expected to be in the low- to mid-80s the remainder of the week.
The record high for June 19 is 99, and for June 20 it's 98 degrees, set in 1983 and 1947, respectively, the weather service said.
In March, Chicago set several warmth records during a string of days above 80.
