Community leaders rally to take back the streets

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Community leaders gathered Friday night on the city's south side to talk about taking back their block.

Those leaders said they're tired of gangs and guns taking over their neighborhoods and now they're taking a stand.

"I charge you tonight, this is not just a rally or just march, Father Michael Pfleger said.

More than 2,000 people gathered outside Saint Sabina to stop the violence on Chicago's streets.

The crowd was entertained by multiple groups as well as special appearances by Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean Claude Brizard, Chicago Bear Jmarcus Webb and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy.

"I am accountable, and I accept my accountability, that's a hard thing to accept, we've got to do better," McCarthy added.

Speakers say 107 kids were killed between March of 2011 to March of 2012.

Families, and even victims marched together towards what they hope will be an end to the silence.
