CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 58-year-old northwest suburban man was killed Thursday night when the car he was driving near his home struck a concrete encasement and rolled over.
There were no witnesses to the crash on northbound Walker Road, approximately one-half mile north of Route 72 near Hampshire, so investigators don't know what exactly caused Thomas E. Kopitke's 1989 Ford Mustang to leave the road, the Kane County Sheriff's office said.
But when deputies got to the scene about 8:53 p.m. they determined the Mustang had been traveling north on Walker when it left the road and struck a concrete encasement before overturning and coming to rest in a field.
Kopitke, the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, a release from the sheriff's office said. No other vehicles were involved. The incident remains under investigation Friday morning.
