CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A special bicycling event will be held in Chicago Friday to benefit wounded soldiers. It's called the Wounded Warrior Project's Soldier Ride.

The River North event features over 35 cyclists, who'll cover 25 miles of the city's streets. They will be escorted by Chicago Police, Cook County Sheriff's officers and the Chicago Fire Dept.

"What a better way to see the city," wounded war veteran Garrett Anderson said. "You can fly over it, you can drive through it, but you can ride on a bike and really see the city, which is breathtaking anyway. It's Chicago right?"

The Wounded Warrior Project pairs newly injured soldiers with those who have been injured in the past, to create a mentor relationship and help them adjust to their new lives.

"The mission of a soldier is that the mission must go on and the mission of life must go on. The wounded project gives you the goals and the tools and what you need to create that mission and join that mission," Anderson said. "What they do is give you the tools and they give you the mind body and spirit to drive on with the mission of life. 'Quit' is never an option in the military, so you must drive on."

The organization's mission is to promote mental wellness for soldiers who come home wounded, and sometimes feel like life is over. They hope to inspire others, to help remind them that life is good, and there is much more to do and enjoy moving forward.

Their last ride was held in Washington D.C. in April, and the next ride will take place on July 18.
