Chicago Police are searching for a gunman who shot at two officers on the south side Thursday night.
Police said the incident started shortly after 5:00pm when someone shot at an officer near South Yale and West 116th Streets.
Officers pursued a dark SUV and pulled the vehicle over at South Perry near West 106th. They arrested the woman driver, but a man jumped out of the SUV and fled east through the yards. At 10546 South State, an officer exchanged gunfire with the suspect who shattered the front windshield of the squad car.
"Just a barrage of gunfire, I mean it was a violent situation," Gregory Baptiste said. Baptiste is a carpenter who lives right next door. He said he heard 15-20 shots.
Police used their helicopter with an infrared camera as well as a K-9 team. But the suspected gunman remained at large Thursday evening.
