CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Police are looking for a man who provides South Side ATM users with checks to deposit, then robs them at gunpoint.
The gunman approaches victims near ATMs at South Side Bank of America branches and provides them with a check to deposit into their account, according to a community alert from Area South detectives. The man, carrying a blue steel revolver, then orders the victims to withdraw money from their account and give it to him.
The robber then drives off in a dark green, four-door Cadillac or white four-door vehicle with an accomplice inside, the alert said.
The gunman is described as a 20- to 29-year-old black man with a medium to dark complexion, the alert said. He is described as 5-foot-5 to 6 feet and 150-200 pounds.
During one incident, the gunman wore a red baseball cap with the word "SOCIETY" on it, a maroon and gray jacket with the number 24 on the left shoulder and the letter "S" on the left side, police said. He had on dark pants and red, white and black gym shoes.
The six similar robberies have happened in the Grand Crossing, South Chicago and Gresham police districts on the South Side.
Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8273.
