Bob Sirott's One More Thing about Apple's new products

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing about the new generation of products, features, and updates Apple unveiled yesterday.

As one Facebook friend of mine said, "Hey... New apple announcement: "everything you already own is now bleep & obsolete!" He didn't use the word bleep.

It's a fact that technology is moving faster and faster. But is it progress when the result of all this is you have to buy new computers, tablets, phones and other gizmos every year to keep up with the times? My wife just announced to me that she needs a new computer--hers is completely out of date she said.

Its three years old! And that's how it is today.

This phone is now a nostalgic collector's item from way, way back in 2009! Jerry Bryant, host and producer of the nationally seen IB-TV music shows says he still uses and old reel to reel video tape deck that's 20 years old and works perfectly. His brand new equipment is not even two years old before it goes out. My radio still works like it did when I bought it more than 10 years ago.

Last year, 460 million pounds of electronics were recycled in this country. A 53 percent increase from the previous year.

The first compact disc player didn't come out until 1982. Any day now we'll be hearing how CD's will no longer be manufactured. Hey, I like product improvements as much as anyone else. Give us better, but build something for us that our kids won't laugh at next year.

We'd love to hear from you. Go to to view the One More Thing archives and leave your comments. Leave a short, snappy one, make us think, enlighten us, or amuse us and it doesn't matter if you agree or disagree -- you'll have a good chance of getting on TV.
