2 dead, 3 wounded in South Side shooting

Two people were killed and three were wounded in a shooting during a fight on the South Side late Sunday night, police said.

Someone produced a handgun and fired several shots into a crowd of people in the 700 block of West 50th Place about 11:15 p.m., hitting five people, police said.

Jonathan Duncan, 22, of the 5200 block of South Racine Avenue was pronounced dead at 12:17 a.m. Monday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was shot multiple times.

Shondell Adams, 21, of the 700 block of West 50th Place, was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m. at Provident Hospital of Cook County, according to the medical examiner's office.

Three others were wounded in the shooting.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the foot and taken to Provident Hospital, and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the arm and taken to Provident Hospital.

All three were in good condition, according to police.

Fire Media Affairs reported three victims being transported from the scene: one in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, one in fair-to-serious condition to St. Bernard Hospital, and one in fair-to-serious condition to Holy Cross Hospital.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
