CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police seized four assault weapons, ammunition, counterfeit cash and about $3,700 worth of heroin during two raids Friday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

About 7:30 a.m., tactical officers and SWAT team members with the Chicago Police Department executed search warrants for two residences in the 7500 block of South Chappel Avenue, police said in a news release.

Police obtained the warrants after learning that a 33-year-old man affiliated with a gang was storing contraband at the two locations, the release said.

At one location, police found three loaded assaults rifles, a .22-caliber assault weapon and a large amount of tan heroin worth about $3,7000, the release said. The assault weapons were furnished with high-capacity ammunition magazines, the release said, and several rounds were found close to the weapons.

Police found sheets of counterfeit dollar bills at the second location, the release said, adding that clothing belonging to the gang-member was also seized.

The gang-member was not found at either location, and police are continuing their investigation.
