Chicago's Most Wanted: Fidel Urbina

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Fidel Urbina is wanted in the murdering of one woman and the sexual assault of another.

The crimes happened seven months apart in 1998. Urbina has been on the run ever since and now the FBI is renewing a plea to find him.

The FBI says Urbina started a crime spree in March of 1998 by beating and raping a Chicago woman. He was arrested but posted bond. While out on bond, agents say he beat, raped and strangled another Chicago woman, 22-year-old Gabriella Torres, whose body was found in the trunk of a burned out vehicle on the city's southwest side.

Urbina is a Mexican national and the FBI believes he may have fled to Durango, Mexico. Since the attacks, there has been an international manhunt for him. But with his ties to Chicago there is also a chance he might return to this area.

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward in this case, which is standard for fugitives on the national Top Ten list. It hopes the incentive might be enough to get someone to call with a tip that leads to Urbina's arrest.

The photos in this case are from 14 years ago, but one thing stands out about Urbina's appearance that probably hasn't changed: he has highly visible pock mark scars on his right cheek.

Urbina has been know to use numerous aliases. When FBI agents first asked for the public's help in 2008, it believed his real name was Lorenzo Maes. It later learned that was someone else's identity Urbina had assumed. Urbina could be using any number of names.

Here is the FBI's full description of Urbina:

Hispanic male.

37 years old.

About six-feet-tall, 70 pounds.

He has black hair and brown eyes and a pock-marked right cheek.

He is considered armed and dangerous, if you seen him call police.
