$75K bond for man accused of driving the wrong direction — again

A Pilsen man was ordered held on $75,000 bond Friday, one day after being arrested in the wrong direction on the Eisenhower Expressway. It was the second time he has been accused of the crime.
Victor H. Rocha, 34, of the 1500 block of South Sangamon Avenue, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with felony aggravated DUI and ticketed for driving the wrong way, operating a vehicle with a revoked driver's license and disobeying a traffic control device, according to Illinois State Police.
On Friday, Cook County Judge James R. Brown ordered Rocha held on $75,000 bond, said state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. He will next appear in court June 15.
Rocha was driving a silver, 2009 Hyundai east in the westbound lanes of the Eisenhower (I-290) and attempting to drive north onto the ramp from the southbound Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94), a release from State Police said.
An Illinois Department of Transportation truck stopped the car on the ramp and prevented the driver from going farther, the release said. Rocha was arrested about 10 minutes later.
He was also wanted for a prior DUI and driving the wrong way arrest from 2010, when he was stopped near the intersection of Orleans and Superior, police said.
"Anytime a wrong-way driver is behind the wheel, the public and motorists are at risk," ISP District Chicago Capt. Luis Gutierrez said a statement. "The real tragedy here is that this is the second time this driver has violated the law and endangered the safety of others."
