Teachers Union accuses Brizard of sabotage

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago Teachers Union is accusing the school system of trying to sabotage their strike authorization vote.

They said that Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard sent a mass email the night before the vote to "coerce" teachers not to strike.

Brizard's email told teachers that there is "no need to rush to vote now," and asks them to wait until August after an independent fact-finder's recommendations.

CPS Chief Communications Officer, Becky Carroll responded by saying, "We have every right to communicate the truth to our teachers since CTU has deliberately misrepresented our initial proposals to their members who've been asked to authorize a strike well in advance of the independent fact finder's compromise report."

The union needs 75 percent of its teachers to vote "yes" to authorize the strike.
