CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Following at least one delay of about 45 minutes, Metra Electric District trains were on the move again Thursday morning after a car involved in an accident on the South Side wound up on the tracks, blocking both inbound and outbound trains.
The incident happened near the Bryn Mawr station on the South Side, according to Metra.
Apparently there was a two-car accident at that location and at least one of the cars wound up on the tracks, blocking the path of Metra Electric District trains, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
The Metra Electric District Outbound Train No. 309, scheduled to arrive at 93rd Street at 7:52 a.m., was stopped near Bryn Mawr because of the vehicle struck on the tracks, and was delayed about 45 minutes before it was moving again, Miller said.
The car blocked Metra trains on both tracks, Miller said. In addition to Train No. 309, "a couple others were delayed, as well," he said. But by about 8:30 a.m. Metra Electric District trains were on the move again, he said.
