A deadly shooting led to a crash involving a CTA bus Tuesday night.
A 22-year-old driver was shot in the chest near 68th and Calumet. When he tried to speed off, he crashed into the bus in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood.
Darius Sarley, 22, of the 1500 block of West 71st Street was pronounced dead at 11:31 p.m. after being taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Sarley was behind the wheel of a van parked in the 6800 block of South Calumet Avenue with a 19-year-old man when someone approached them on foot and fired shots about 10:39 p.m., police said.
His 19-year-old passenger was grazed in the shooting, but has non-serious injuries. The CTA bus driver was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said passengers on the bus told authorities they were injured but refused medical treatment. She said she did not know how many people were on the bus at the time of the accident.
No one was in custody for the shooting as of early Wednesday, but police said they had a good lead. Area Central detectives are still looking for suspects.
