CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Bond was reduced Thursday for an anti-NATO protester accused of knocking down a police officer attempting to arrest another protester.
Christopher French, 21, of Beaver Dam, Wis., is charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and one misdemeanor count of resisting a police officer.
Bond was initially set at $250,000 on May 22, but was reduced to $100,000 on Thursday, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
French was arrested about 8:45 p.m. on May 20 in the 400 block of South Wabash Avenue after he charged an officer trying to arrest a protester who had knocked him down, prosecutors said.
"You aren't arresting him," police said French told the officer as he pushed him.
Officers used an "emergency takedown" and French tried to make it hard for them to handcuff him, police said.
One officer tripped and cut his left wrist, requiring medical attention, while another scraped his knees. The officer French originally had a confrontation with suffered a cut to his hand, police said.
French will next appear June 12 in North Felony Court (Br. 42) at 2452 W. Belmont Ave.
