DETROIT (WJBK) -
"It's really hurtful. He don't understand the pain that he caused me waiting on my teeth to get fixed for two years, no money, no anything," Trina Johnson said last week.
Once a woman with a beautiful smile, her ex-boyfriend hit her with a baseball bat two years ago. She was angry her ex, Odell Snyder, a probation absconder, had just been placed back on probation and put back on the street after Johnson found him and turned him in. He had been an absconder for a year and a half and he never paid Johnson any restitution so she could get her teeth fixed. Johnson was furious that Judge Deborah Thomas didn't throw him in jail.
"It's like I'm getting a smack in the face. That's not fair."
"I know that she would want to smile, so we said let us see what we can do here at Superteeth," said Dr. Calvin Brown.
He was one of several dentists who contacted FOX 2 wanting to help Johnson after they saw her story. She's already made her way to the dentist's chair and is ready for a new smile.
"I haven't had a smile in two years, so I done cried over it over the weekend, but I'll be able to smile in the next couple of months, and I can't wait to smile for the camera," Johnson said.
Dr. Hanley Kaiser with Superteeth said there's a lot of damage. Remember Johnson was hit in the mouth with a baseball bat.
"It completely shattered her front teeth. They're just shattered in half," he explained. "We're probably talking about a couple months start to finish, but I'll have her walking around looking okay today."
Dr. Kaiser said it's a temporary fix, but Johnson will have a new smile right away.
"I'm happy. I can smile! I'm just so happy," she said. "I want to thank Superteeth from the bottom of my heart for doing this for me."
Johnson feels more confident already and wants to be an advocate for other victims of domestic violence like herself.
"I really want women to speak up and stand up for themselves and [not] be afraid because there are people that [are] willing to help," she said. "I want to do a lot for domestic violence period because I feel like they're not taking domestic violence seriously in Wayne County."
