River North residents concerned about construction of three new high rises

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

More than 300 residents packed into a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss construction on new buildings potentially going up in the River North and Fulton River neighborhoods. Three towers, which includes one residential and two commercial buildings would take up this area known as Wolf Point on the riverfront.

The 42nd district Alderman Brendan Reilly addressed what many are concerned about.

"Making sure that we're promoting good projects that promote downtown Chicago prosper and grow, while also doing our best to address legitimate quality of life concerns and also infrastructure concerns," Reilly said.

River North and Fulton area residents continued to voice concerns about traffic congestion in an already congested area. All three buildings would reportedly support more than a 'thousand' parking spaces underneath the buildings.

The developers also added that they will incorporate 2 acres of green space, something very meaningful to the residents.

An additional street light will be added to assist traffic flow and encourage potential employees to car pool or take public transportation.

Residents say that will not ease their congestion concerns. And frankly, would rather see this property turn into something everyone can use.

"We know that all of the mayors have wanted one. We would really think to avoid density to be in respect for the last location in Chicago, that this should seriously be considered a park area," ‘Friends of Wolf Point' Ellen Barry said
