CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

People across the country paused to remember the fallen on Memorial Day. An Arlington Heights parade honors those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The Vietnam Veterans of America will march in the parade for the first time this year.

The Arlington Heights community is very dedicated to the parade, and are known for standing up and applauding veterans and soldiers as they pass by.

Parade chairman Greg Padovani said the experience sends chills down a veteran's spine as they walk through, and they are very grateful for the show of support.

He said the Vietnam War veterans had tears in their eyes when they were invited to march in the parade, because it meant so much to them.

Padovani said that organizers might need more space for Monday's parade - there are 4,500 marchers alone, and could be record numbers in attendance.

The parade began at Village Hall at 9:30 p.m.
