Gratitude met humility Wednesday night on the South Side as the White Sox paid tribute to Chicago Police for their efforts during the NATO Summit.
White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf wanted to say thanks to the men and women in blue by giving them free tickets to a game this year.
Tonight the first group of officers got a special honor during the 7th inning stretch. Eight Chicago Police officers were brought on the field for a special ceremony to recognize the efforts of the entire department in keeping the peace and keeping the city safe through this past weekend. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry MxCarthy were also on hand.
Earlier the officers got to go on the field for batting practice, pose for pictures with players like Paul Konerko, get a few autographs and just enjoy a beautiful day at the ball park.
"I'm happy to be out here," said Chicago Police Officer Tony Rouba. "I didn't do more or less than any other officer would have. I'm just happy to be out here and I'm gonna definitely enjoy the experience."
