LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Johnny Knox insists he will play again for the Chicago Bears. He's just not sure when.

Knox said Wednesday that he hopes to be ready for the opener even though he realizes he could miss a big chunk of the season after suffering a back injury on a horrific hit against Seattle in December.

He had just caught a pass when Seattle's Kam Chancellor poked the ball out of his hands. As Knox made a diving attempt to retrieve it, he got bent backward on a hit by Anthony Hargrove, leaving him with an injury that required surgery to stabilize a vertebra in his back.

He says he is lifting weights on machines and jogging. He says he is in no hurry.
