Konerko back in White Sox lineup after beaning

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Paul Konerko has returned to the lineup for the Chicago White Sox, four days after being hit in the face by a pitch.

Konerko still has discoloration under his left eye, but says his vision is fine. He was set to bat fourth Tuesday night when the White Sox hosted Minnesota.

Konerko is hitting .367 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs. He missed two games after being struck above the left eye by Jeff Samardzija of the Cubs last Friday.

The White Sox star said he went through a series of tests on the day he was hit and there were no complications. He said he needed to wait for the swelling to go down.

Chicago manager Robin Ventura said Konerko could have pinch hit earlier in an emergency.
