CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Besides the world leaders who attended the NATO Summit, no one stood out like the man in the white tights out on Michigan Ave.
Spirit guardian says he takes that peace out on the streets of Chicago everyday, walking on the North side near Bryn Mawr.
Kids are fascinated and people in the area are surprised to see the tall guy in tights. Spirit Guardian says he doesn't have any super powers and he doesn't want residents to know who he really is.
He can't run like Flash Gordon at the speed of light, or fly like batman, but he does have the ability and power to fight crime in the community.
"Purse snatchings, iPhone robberies, sexual assaults--those types of things," Spirit Guardian said.
Spirit is part of a national movement of "modern day" real life superheroes. Check them on the Internet and you'll find it's almost a friendly cult of do-gooders. They don't want their real identity known and they are active in the community with neighborhood watch groups, all while wearing their own superhero costumes.
During the NATO Summit, we saw spirit guardian out on the streets patrolling near protestors, keeping pedestrians safe. Even our cameraman says Spirit tried to help him when some protestors got rowdy and started throwing bottles at Chicago police officers.
"If he got hurt it would've been my responsibility," Spirit said.
