CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has spent time with three high-ranking Illinoisans.

Komorowski met Tuesday with U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley. Komorowski awarded Kirk the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. The honor is given to those who make distinguished contributions to Poland, largely in international diplomacy.

Kirk and Quigley have worked to get Poland included in a waiver program that allows people to travel to the U.S. up to 90 days without a visa.

Komorowski and Emanuel discussed economic development and other topics.

About 1 million Polish-Americans live in the Chicago area.
