MCDONOUGH, Ga. -

A National Guardsman and beloved martial arts instructor who was shot and killed in Atlanta was remembered on Monday.

Mitt Lenix a combat medic in the National Guard, a performer with the Renaissance Festival and a world champion martial artist was killed last week at the Starlight Drive-In Theater. Police say his car wouldn't start and when he went to another driver for help, that driver, Quentric Williams, shot him.

Bill Lenix choked back tears as he spoke about his 28-year-old son during the funeral in McDonough.

"He was an entertainer, he was a soldier, He was a friend, most of all he was my son," said Bill Lenix.

Military honors were given to Mitt for his service in the National Guard. He planned to be a doctor. His parents said he wanted to help others. Many said that he already has through his students, several of whom spoke at the funeral and talked of the things that Mitt had taught them.

The alleged shooter, Williams, was arrested three days later. Mitt's parents said they forgive him.
