Seven people – including two boys, 12 and 14 – have died, and at least 22 people were wounded in shootings since Friday night.

Two men were killed in the most recent shooting, which happened about 12:40 a.m. Monday in the Southwest Side Pilsen Neighborhood.

The two men, 26-year-old Alejandro Munoz and 27-year-old Estaban Alvaraz, were sitting on the front steps of a house in the 2200 block of South Leavitt Street about 12:40 a.m., when someone approached on foot and shot them, officials said.

Munoz was shot in the head and was dead on the scene, and Alvaraz was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other people killed were:

  • Joseph Owens, 25, whose body was found about 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the weeds behind an apartment building in the 7900 block of South Troy Street. He had multiple gunshot wounds, and police believe he was shot Saturday.
  • Dwayne Billingsley, 35, shot in a gangway in the 10100 block of South Michigan Avenue about 11:55 p.m. Saturday.
  • Nazia Banks, 12, was on his way home when he was walking in the 8000 block of South Brandon Avenue about 10:04 p.m. Saturday, when two male suspects approached and shot him in the head.
  • Melvin Jacobs, 23, was among six who were shot at a birthday party in the 11600 block of South Peoria Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Jacobs was the only one who succumbed to his wounds, though a 32-year-old was in critical condition after being shot in the head.
  • Alejandro Jamie, 14, was shot in the back in the 2600 block of West 35th Place about 9 p.m. Friday and died shortly after at Mount Sinai Hospital.

At least 22 others – including the five shot with Jacobs early Saturday -- were wounded in shootings across the city over the weekend.
