CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
First Lady Michelle Obama is showing off her hometown to the spouses of the world leaders in town this weekend.
Their first stop was at a place very dear to the First Lady, the Gary Comer Youth Center. The center focuses on helping high school students prepare for their college careers.
The students took an international stage as they entertained the guests with a gospel performance and a hip-hop aerobics class for children. The First Lady was invited to join the fun, but declined, pointing and smiling at her dress and heels.
They toured the facility and were served them a lunch created by the culinary students. They also visited the center's rooftop garden.
Obama spent about two hours at the Gary Comer Youth Center on Sunday, giving an inspirational talk to the children. She told them they shouldn't be afraid of failing.
Mrs. Obama grew up on the South Side and took pride in showing off this gem near her old neighborhood.
The first lady is expected to end the tour with a stop at the Art Institute for dinner. World leaders will take some time to socialize Sunday evening during working dinners.
President Obama will host NATO leaders at Soldier Field, while the Council Of Defense Ministers will have dinner at the Chicago Cultural Center.
The North Atlantic Council of Foreign Ministers will dine at the Adler Planetarium, and Governor Quinn will host the International Security Force Dinner at the Field Museum.
The big late night event is the Nato Global Celebration at 9:30 p.m., in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier.
