Cops injured when suspect crashes through ceiling, window of home

A man attempting to flee Chicago Police officers fell through the ceiling and then jumped through a window of a South Side Morgan Park neighborhood home early Friday.
A joint team of FBI agents and police officers arrived at a home in the 1000 block of West 115th Street at 6:44 a.m. searching for a 27-year-old man believed to be there with relatives, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The convicted offender was being sought for an August 2011 warrant for possession of cannabis and crack cocaine, Mirabelli said. He was also wanted for attempting to run over officers with a vehicle when they tried to stop him on Dec. 1, 2011.
When officers were invited into the home, they noticed a chair underneath a ceiling door to an attic, Mirabelli said. They then heard running along the rafters of the attic.
The suspect then crashed through the ceiling into the living room, Mirabelli said. When officers attempted to place him in custody, he punched two FBI agents and scuffled with police officers.
He then broke through a window and ran three blocks before he was apprehended in the 11500 block of South Sangamon, Mirabelli said.
One FBI agent sustained a laceration to the face and a second suffered a laceration to the wrist while attempting to place him in custody at the home, Mirabelli said. Police officers also suffered minor cuts and bruises, but none of the officers or agents were hospitalized.
The suspect was hospitalized for a medical evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
Charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest are pending, Mirabelli said. The warrant also charged aggravated battery to a police officer and possession of a controlled substance.
