Protesters and police on the streets, and rolling road blocks on the expressways as international dignitaries come into town, and the world's attention turns to Chicago.
Chicago police have closed Lake Shore Drive between 39th Street and Balbo for the weekend. The shut down includes entrance ramps from I-55.
The Chinatown feeder ramp from the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan on over to the Stevenson will be closed during the summit. Those lanes will be shut down as of 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Good alternates to consider may be to exit at 47th and head west to the Dan Ryan, and if you're coming from the west, since the every route is closed because to NATO, consider taking the side streets.
As world leaders continue to arrive in Chicago, landing out at O'Hare airport, the inbound lanes of the Kennedy expressway will be shut down for major motorcades, especially when the president of Pakistan lands and President Barack Obama arrive.
Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai arrived Friday afternoon at O'Hare International Airport. His motorcade caused rolling roadblocks on the east-bound Kennedy, as he traveled downtown.
Karzai will be meeting with President Obama during the NATO summit. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will also be at the summit.
But a White House spokesperson said that there won't be any bi-lateral talks between the two Middle-Eastern countries.
They are headed to McCormick Place where final preparations are being put in place for the big event, which runs through Monday.
