Zwecker: 'Battleship,' What to Expect' not worth it

Posted: Updated:

Well, let me just say, this might be a good weekend to catup up on some movies that opened earlier since I don't have much good to say about the new films opening Friday.

For those folks who mistakenly will go to "What To Expect When You're Expecting," don't expect much.

The big reveal here? Pregnancy is challenging and can be tough on couple's relationships.

Gee. Who knew?

While cast with some of the best-looking stars on the planet, including Jennifer Lopez, "Glee's" Matthew Morrison and Cameron Diaz, this romantic comedy is really just a third-rate sitcom crossed with movies like "Valentine's Day" or "New Year's Eve", just with a lot more horomones and fertility drugs packed in.

Sorry, this is one you can definitely skip and rent later but just if you want to look at all the pretty people making fools of themselves on screen.

And unfortunately, things don't get much better with our next film.

As much as anyone, I love the big action packed summer blockbusters filled with lots of special effects but that's when they're done well.

Unfortunately, "Battleship" is simply two hours on non-stop noise that's guaranteed to give you a headache.

Especially since this sci-fi alien invasion defended by the U.S. Navy does not deliver the thrills one wants from this kind of film.

The storyline is silly and predictable and such a waste of truly talented actors, including Liam Neeson as the fleet admiral.

It's just a shame that music superstar Rihanna decided to make this moronic movie the one for her big screen debut.

Boy, this is a bad weekend for actress Brooklyn Decker, as she stars both in "Battleship" and "What To Expect When You're Expecting."

"Battleship" is definitely a skip it, don't even bother to rent it later.

Go for one of the "Transformers" flicks, a much better choice.

And as I mentioned earlier this week, Sasha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator" has hit theaters and while it has a lot of very funny political satire, its heavy dose of truly gross bathroom and sexual humor would make this a tough one for many audiences. I only recommend this to those of you who are really big Sasha Baron Cohen fans.
