CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A California man in Chicago to protest the NATO Summit was arrested on drug charges Wednesday during a disturbance in the Near South Side Chinatown neighborhood.

Michael E. Lowe, 24, of the 100 block of West Morris Avenue in Fresno, Calif., was charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis, police said. Prosecutors said he was found with heroin.

Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos-Cecil ordered Lowe held on a $10,000 bond Thursday, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. He remained in the Cook County Jail as of Thursday evening.

Police said Lowe was arrested about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in connection with a disturbance in the 2200 block of South Archer Avenue.

Prosecutors said Lowe was in town to join the NATO protests.
