Chicago's streets were busy Thursday with hotspots of protesters drawn to the city because of the impending NATO summit.
Dozens of protestors from Occupy Chicago made their way to Prudential Plaza, chanting their message. There, they poured a corn syrup substance on themselves as they shouted their message to the public just outside of the Canadian consulate.
"War is dirty business," said Natalie Wahlberg of Occupy Chicago. "All of these wars that NATO fights are for oil. Canada is a member of NATO and G8 and we are here today to demonstrate to the public that death and blood for oil is dirty business."
There was a heavy police presence outside the plaza, but the mood overall was peaceful.
Protesters did express their concern as Chicago Police officers in riot gear sat in vans nearby.
