CHICAGO (Associated Press) -
Air Force F-16s and other military aircraft will scream through the skies over Chicago Friday as part of preparations for securing the NATO summit.
The air defense exercise is being run by the North American Aerospace Defense Command. It's scheduled to start around 9 a.m. and last two hours.
A NORAD statement released Thursday says the drill will include F-16s, a Coast Guard search-and-rescue helicopter called an HH-65 Dolphin. There will also be an Air National Guard C-21 aircraft, used for cargo and passenger airlift.
During the two-day summit, which starts Sunday, Air Force fighter jets will be on alert to enforce the Federal Aviation Administration's temporary flight restriction zone.
Friday's drill is in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service, which has overall responsibility for summit security.
