Iraq Veterans Against the War hold rally protesting the Global War on Terror

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A group of Iraq War veterans held an anti-war rally downtown Thursday. It's part of the buildup leading to this weekend's NATO summit.

Iraq Veterans Against the War held the demonstration in front of the Vietnam War Memorial near the corner of Wabash and Wacker, to protest the Global War on Terror.

The veterans plan to join the Coalition Against the NATO/G8 War and Poverty Agenda, National Nurses United and other groups for a protest parade on Sunday, which looks to be the largest gathering of activists against NATO this weekend.

They will ceremoniously return medals awarded to them for their work in Iraq to NATO generals.

"We were awarded these medals for serving in the Global War on Terror, a war based on lies and failed policies," the group said in a call-to-action.
