Job Requirements or Qualification:
The editor will help develop the Renew brand, brainstorm content, help to establish the voice and direction of the magazine and website, review and edit copy, write copy, research and fact check, manage database information and assist the publisher as needed. The editor will work with the editorial director to create the lineup for upcoming issues as well as seek out freelance contributors and assign stories. The editor needs to be an adept writer, one who can develop content (long-form and abbreviated) for an array of audiences (readers, potential advertisers, potential investors, press members), for a variety of mediums (magazine, website, newsletter, press releases, social media) in a host of formats (promotional, feature, editorial, business). The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and communicator with business acumen and a level of experience dealing with a variety of people and needs. The candidate must be able to function in a fast-paced work environment as a team member as well as individually, meet deadlines and provide quality customer service.
The editor will also manage production and workflow. Should be organized, efficient and a strong leader. The editor will work with the designer in layouts (should be fluent in InDesign), maintain production schedules and communicate with the printer and newsstand distributor. The editor will maintain the style guide and proof all pages before press. The editor will ensure the timely and accurate production of all pages. The editor will also be the liaison between the magazine and the fulfillment house.
Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field; 3-5 years of strong professional writing and editing experience; knowledge of AP stylebook guidelines; ability to handle multiple projects in a past-paced work environment; ability to work with a variety of people; ability to meet deadlines; ability to work as a team member and independently.
