NATO Summit leads to wedding office shutdown

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Hoping to get hitched in front of a judge in downtown Chicago this Saturday?

Well, it won't happen this weekend, thanks to the NATO Summit.

The Marriage and Civil Union Court at 119 W. Randolph will be closed Saturday, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced Tuesday. Weekend weddings at suburban courthouses were axed as a result of budget cuts.

The court will re-open Monday.

In addition, the Cook County Law Library, also housed in the Daley Center court complex, will close on Friday at 5 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. and will be closed on Saturday.

With protesters expected to start descending en masse on Friday, law enforcement officials have been discussing whether to close the concourse level of the Daley Center court complex. For that reason, traffic courtrooms on the lower level will be shut Friday afternoon. For more information, go to the clerk's website, cookcountyclerkofcourt.org.
