By now, we should all realize that a high efficiency furnace is pretty much the only way to go here in Michigan. We're heating the majority of the year. The bigger your house, the more gas that you use, hence the more money that you save on your gas bills.
When you get the government and the utility companies kicking you back money just for saving money, that's something that's hard to beat.
Contrary to popular belief, the federal tax credits for using high efficiency furnaces didn't stop. They just got a little bit smaller. However, the utility companies are now kicking in money to help even things out.
Here's how it breaks down:
For high efficiency furnaces, you can get $150 off your taxes and over $400 back from the utility company.
For high efficiency air conditioners, it's $300 back off your taxes.
For furnaces that have high efficiency blowers, you get another $50, and if you get a high efficiency water heater, it's $300 back from your taxes.

Now remember, the most you can get back is $500 provided you haven't used these same credits in the past three years. It's a win-win situation. You're using high efficiency equipment. You're saving money on gas and electrical, and the government and utility companies are kicking you money back. Everybody wins!
