Parents, experts debate extended breastfeeding

Posted: Updated:

There's a heated debate over Time magazine's latest cover, which features a woman breastfeeding a boy who is almost four-years-old.

The mom is Jamie Lynne Grumet, 26. She told Time that she was breast-fed until she was 6-years-old, and that it made her feel really loved.

The article is about a way of raising kids called "attachment parenting" which urges strong bonding between parents and their children. Parents try to stay physically closer to their children and eschew strollers; mothers breastfeed longer; and parents let children sleep in their beds.

There is medical evidence to support extended breastfeeding, and the World Health Organization recommends it up to a child's second birthday.
