
Two men were killed in a drive-by shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday evening on the South Side.
The men were shot at 4:47 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Hoyne Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Someone inside a passing white SUV is believed to have opened fire on the pair, police said.
One man was shot in the head and was dead on the scene, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified him as 20-year-old William S. Herron-Junius, of the 6900 block of South Lowe Avenue.
A second man, 20, was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said.
Lamont Matticx of the 2100 block of West 54th Place died at the hospital at 5:38 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
No one was in custody Friday morning.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
