Teen fleeing from speeding ticket crashes into Libertyville house

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Libertyville man trying to avoid a speeding ticket crashed into a house while fleeing from police last Saturday in the north suburb.

Andrew T. Gregory, 19, of the 600 block of South Dymond Road in Libertyville was charged with one count each of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and criminal damage to property; and ticketed for two counts of speeding, three counts of disobeying a stop sign, driving too fast for conditions and reckless driving, according to Libertyville police.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle Gregory was driving at a high rate of speed on East Park Avenue about 12:30 a.m. on May 5, but Gregory turned onto South 4th Avenue and accelerated rapidly — disobeying several stop signs, police said.

Officers initially lost sight of the vehicle, but located it a short time later in a yard in the 800 block of Valley Park Drive, police said. Gregory was still seated in the vehicle with minor injuries and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The vehicle had extensive front-end damage and officers learned Gregory drove off the road and struck the side of a house, police said.

The residents were home at the time, but were not injured, police said. The house suffered undisclosed structural damage.
