Field Museum gets piece of meteorite that lit up west coast sky

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The field museum has a new star; a meteorite, to be exact.

The museum got a piece of the meteor that created a huge fireball in the sky over the west coast last month. It was donated by a private collector.

The meteorite is extremely rare -- and valuable to scientists. Museum officials say studying it could give them a glimpse back in time to when the solar system was formed.
