A teenager who died Sunday afternoon after being shot in Orland Park committed suicide, the Cook County medical examiner's office said Monday.
The 15-year-old was found with a gunshot wound at his home in the 18100 block of Autumn Ridge Drive, according to the medical examiner's office.
The teen was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. at the Stein Institute, the medical examiner's office said.
Police did not return calls seeking comment.
The teen was a student at Sandburg High School in Orland Park, according to a statement issued by Consolidated High School District 230.
"Today is a very sad day for the Sandburg High School community as we grieve the loss of a freshman student," the statement said. " The school community has rallied to support each other in a very difficult time. Social workers and guidance counselors are available for students and staff who are in need of support. We extend our condolences to his family and friends. Our hearts go out to them as they cope with their loss. Out of respect for the student and his family, the school district will not be sharing personal information."
