A robbery downtown interrupted a convention of judges and shut down the Magnificent Mile for several hours Monday morning.
Michigan Avenue was shut down as police investigated an attempted bank robbery at the 539 N. Michigan Citibank.
Police said a man handed a teller a note and a bag and demanded money. He informed the teller there was a bomb in the bag. The teller put money in the bag but the man ran off without it.
Police responded, shutting down Michigan Avenue in both directions.
They also evacuated the Intercontinental Hotel where the nation's federal judges were meeting for a conference. Police say the bomb threat forced that evacuation.
There was also a report of a man entering the Citibank, described as wearing a blue rain poncho, orange hat, surgical mask and one surgical glove. The FBI has not commented on whether that was the man who tried to rob the bank.
