Oswego man wants justice after fight with cop

Newly released surveillance video shows off-duty Kendall County Sheriff's Deputy Craig French pulling his gun on Jason Thurmond and Thurmond's wife who was nine months pregnant.  It happened at an Oswego Walmart on Super Bowl Sunday.

Thurmond says he left the line to grab eggs and returned to find French verbally harassing his wife, who has since given birth to their baby girl.

According to Thurmond, "I never denied about pushing him but he hasn't been honest. I want him to be honest and be a man about what provoked the situation."

French, a veteran deputy with the Kendall County Sheriff's Department serves as the Public Information Officer and does not face any charges.

Thurmond says he felt the need to protect his wife and unborn child - he faces a misdemeanor battery charge and has retained attorney Richard Irvin.

"The person in line did not identify himself as a police officer until after he pulled his gun," said Irvin.

The limited surveillance video released by Walmart shows customers, including children, ducking behind cash registers seconds after French pulls his gun.

Other images show stunned customers near the entrance stop, then slowly move backwards toward the door.

Since the incident,Thurmond, a mental health professional, says his hours were cut at work and hiswife is pulling double shifts.

"We tried to dothings the right way," Thurmond said.  "Wetried to press charges against him with Oswego Police Department and Kendall County - they denied us that.  Our taxes pay them to serve and protect, wellwho's protecting us?"
