HOBART, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police and Lake County, Ind., hazmat authorities are investigating the death of a 58-year-old Northwest Indiana man Wednesday night after a chemical believed to be cyanide was found at the scene.

The Lake County coroner's office identified the dead man as Steven Weinbrenner, 379 Fox Trail Court. A neighbor reported that some homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Detective Sgt. David Evans said Weinbrenner's son arrived home, found his father and notified police. The coroner's office said there were no signs of trauma on the body and ruled the manner of death as pending.
