Ask Dr. Mona: Is Cookie Dough Dangerous?

Posted: Updated:

It's tempting to eat the cookie dough, but the Centers for Disease Control said this month that it's not just the eggs that might make you sick.

The CDC said that the flour could make you ill, too.

The CDC examined the 2009 pre-packaged cookie dough E. Coli outbreak and discovered that the flour might have been to blame. Flour was the only ingredient in the cookie dough factory that did not go through a germ-killing process.

That 2009 outbreak sickened 77 people; 35 were hospitalized.

We asked FOX Chicago News Medical Contributor Dr. Mona Khanna whether you should eat cookie dough, and whether there's anything you can do to make it safer.
