Blackhawks Asst. GM Marc Bergevin to be named Montreal GM

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Blackhawks assistant general manager Marc Bergevin will officially be named the new general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, according to Chicago Tribune report.

The 46-year-old Bergevin was born in Montreal and served as the Chicago Assistant GM last season. Bergevin was drafted by the Blackhawks in 1983 and played for Chicago in the 1984-1985 season. Bergevin played for a total of eight NHL teams from 1984-2004.

After retiring, Bergevin became a pro scout with the Blackhawks and also served as an assistant coach as well as director of player personnel. In June of 2011, he was appointed as an assistant to GM Stan Bowman.

Bergevin will replace Pierre Gauthier who was fired on March 29. Bergevin will be introduced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
