An Aurora man is one of two people still on the run for kidnapping of a far west suburban business owner.
Investigators say 26 year old William or "Willie" Ayala is the mastermind of a plot to kidnap a Montgomery business owner. It happened on December 7, as 67 year old Rafael Caballero, Sr, was leaving work for the day. According to police, Ayala and two other assailants attacked Caballero in the parking lot of Gusto Packing. They say the trio beat Caballero and then dragged him to a van. Investigators add the men covered victim's head and drove Caballero to an abandoned house. After being held there for about three hours, agents say Caballero convinced his six kidnappers to let him go if he promised to pay them $200,000 the next day. A short time later, the kidnappers let Caballero go in an abandoned lot on the outskirts of Montgomery.
Investigators say Caballero's kidnapping was the odd result of an attempt to kidnap another man: a drug dealer Ayala knows. Agents still do not know exactly why the group kidnapped Caballero instead. Three of the six kidnappers also worked for Caballero at Gusto Packing.
Ayala disappeared shortly after the kidnapping. Police say he was last seen leaving Aurora with another of the suspects who is a minor. Ayala was driving a 2007 dark blue dodge magnum with Illinois license plate number K709 241.
Here is a detailed description of what investigators say Ayala looks like. He is described as a Hispanic male, about 5'8", weighing around 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
