Police to Investigate 1939 Capone-Era Murder

Posted:

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chicago Police agreed Tuesday to investigate the 1939 murder of Edward J. O’Hare, who allegedly was a federal informant against Al Capone.

According to the Tribune, Ald. Edward Burke (14th) requested the investigation in light of information in a new book, “Get Capone” by Jonathan Eig, to be released in April. The book says O’Hare became an informant to get his son, Edward “Butch” O’Hare and O’Hare Airport’s namesake, into the U.S. Naval Academy.

Al Wysinger, deputy chief of police department's Detective Division, told the Tribune that the Cold Case Squad will conduct the investigation but could not say how long the squad would look into the case.
