Appeals Court to Rehear CPS Teacher Firings Case

It's back to square one for nearly 750 tenured teachers who were fired last summer by the Chicago Public Schools.

A federal court of appeals ruled in March that the teachers were improperly let go, but in April, CPS argued that the court made a mistake related to current Illinois law.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the appeals court has now agreed to rehear the case.

It has also asked the Illinois Supreme Court for advice on three questions, including whether laid-off tenured teachers have the right to be rehired after an economic layoff.
